Biografi Koes Plus

Koes Plus adalah sebuah grup musik Indonesia yang terkenal pada tahun 1970-an.

Lagu-lagu yang biasa mereka mainkan merupakan lagu yang sederhana baik dalam syair, musik, maupun melodi. Ciri khasnya adalah perpaduan suara khas dari vokalis mereka ( Yon dan Yok).

Bahkan banyak dibawakan oleh penyanyi lain dengan aransemen baru. Sebagai contoh “Lex's Trio” membuat album yang khusus menyanyikan ulang lagu-lagu Koes Plus, “Cintamu T'lah” Berlalu yang dinyanyikan ulang oleh Chrisye, “Manis dan Sayang” yang dibawakan oleh Kahitna. Sampai sekarang Koes Plus masih eksis walaupun tinggal 2 anggotanya (Yon dan Murry) yang aktif ditambah musisi lain dari luar.

Tetapi kebanyakan mereka hanya menyanyikan lagu-lagu lama. Dalam suatu acara Mengenang Koes Plus di RCTI (sekitar tahun 1995), seseorang dari jajaran direksi Remaco bernama Eugene Timothy (yang banyak merekam lagu Koes Plus) menyatakan bahwa sampai sekarang tidak ada kelompok musik yang beat-beatnya seperti Koes Plus. Mungkin dia ingin mengatakan bahwa lagu-lagu Koes Plus yang sederhana itu iramanya gampang diikuti dan enak didengar.

Para penggemar Koes Plus harus menunggu-nunggu di depan TVRI (kala itu tidak ada TV Swasta) begitu mengetahui bahwa Koes Plus bakal tampil di acara televisi.

Perjalanan karir
Kelompok ini dibentuk pada tahun 1969, sebagai kelanjutan dari kelompok “Koes Bersaudara”. Koes Bersaudara menjadi pelopor musik pop dan rock 'n roll, bahkan pernah dipenjara karena musiknya yang dianggap mewakili aliran politik kapitalis. Di saat itu sedang garang-garangnya gerakan anti kapitalis di Indonesia.

Dari kelompok Koes Bersaudara ini lahir lagu-lagu yang sangat populer seperti “Bis Sekolah”,“ Di Dalam Bui”, “Telaga Sunyi”, “Laguku Sendiri” dan masih banyak lagi. Satu anggota Koes Bersaudara, Nomo Koeswoyo keluar dan digantikan Murry sebagai drummer. Walaupun penggantian ini awalnya menimbulkan masalah dalam diri salah satu personalnya yakni Yok yang keberatan dengan orang luar. Nama Bersaudara seterusnya diganti dengan Plus, artinya plus orang luar: Murry.

Sebenarnya lagu-lagu Koes Bersaudara lebih bagus dari segi harmonisasi ( seperti lagu “Telaga Sunyi”, “Dewi Rindu” atau “Bis Sekolah”) dibanding lagu-lagu Koes Plus. Saat itu Nomo, selain bermusik juga mempunya pekerjaan sampingan. Sementara Tonny menghendaki totalitas dalam bermusik yang membuat Nomo harus memilih. Akhirnya Koes Bersaudara harus berubah. Kelompok Koes Plus dimotori oleh almarhum Tonny Koeswoyo (anggota tertua dari keluarga Koeswoyo). Koes Plus dan Koes Bersaudara harus dicatat sebagai pelopor musik pop di Indonesia. Sulit dibayangkan sejarah musik pop kita tanpa kehadiran Koes Bersaudara dan Koes Plus.

Tradisi membawakan lagu ciptaan sendiri adalah tradisi yang diciptakan Koes Bersaudara. Kemudian tradisi ini dilanjutkan Koes Plus dengan album serial volume 1, 2 dan seterusnya. Begitu dibentuk, Koes Plus tidak langsung mendapat simpati dari pecinta musik Indonesia. Piringan hitam album pertamanya sempat ditolak beberapa toko kaset. Mereka bahkan mentertawakan lagu “Kelelawar” yang sebenarnya asyik itu.

Kemudian Murry sempat ngambek dan pergi ke Jember sambil membagi-bagikan piringan hitam albumnya secara gratis pada teman-temannya. Dia bekerja di pabrik gula sekalian main band bersama Gombloh lewat group Lemon Trees. Tonny yang kemudian menyusul Murry untuk diajak kembali ke Jakarta. Baru setelah lagu “Kelelawar” diputar di RRI orang lalu mencari-cari album pertama Koes Plus. Beberapa waktu kemudian lewat lagu-lagunya “Derita”, “Kembali ke Jakarta”, “Malam Ini”, “Bunga di Tepi Jalan” hingga lagu “Cinta Buta”, Koes Plus mendominasi musik Indonesia waktu itu.

Group-group lain yang “seangkatan” seperti Favourites, Panbers, Mercy's, D'Lloyd menjadikan Koes Plus sebagai “kiblat”. Sehingga group-group ini selalu meniru apa yang dilakukan Koes Plus. Seperti pembuatan album di luar pop Indonesia, seperti pop melayu dan pop jawa menjadi trend group-group lain setelah Koes Plus mengawalinya.

“Lagu Nusantara I” (Volume 5), “Oh Kasihku” (Volume 6), “Mari-Mari” (Volume 7), “Diana” dan “Kolam Susu” ( Volume 8) merajai musik pop waktu itu. Puncak kejayaan Koes Plus terjadi ketika mereka mengeluarkan album Volume 9 dengan lagu yang sangat terkenal “Muda-Mudi” (yang diciptakan Koeswoyo, bapak dari Tonny, Yon dan Yok). Disusul lagu “Bujangan” dan “Kapan-Kapan” dari volume 10. Masih berlanjut dengan lagu “Nusantara V” dari album Volume 11 dan “Cinta Buta” dari album Volume 12.

Bersamaan dengan itu Koes Plus juga mengeluarkan album pop Jawa dengan lagu yang dikenal dari tukang becak, ibu-ibu rumah tangga, hinga anak-anak muda, yaitu “Tul Jaenak” dan “Ojo Nelongso”. Belum lagi lagu mereka yang berirama melayu seperti “Mengapa”, “Cinta Mulia” dan lagu keroncongnya yang berjudul “Penyanyi Tua”. Sayang sekali di setiap album yang mereka keluarkan tidak ada dokumentasi bulan dan tahun, sehingga susah melacak album tertentu dikeluarkan tahun berapa. Bahkan tidak ada juga kata-kata pengantar lainnya. Album mereka baru direkam secara teratur mulai volume VIII setelah ditandatangani kontrak dengan Remaco. Sebelumnya perusahaan yang merekam album-album mereka adalah “Dimita”.

Pada tahun 1972-1976 udara Indonesia benar-benar dipenuhi oleh lagu-lagu Koes Plus. Baik radio atau orang pesta selalu mengumandangkan lagu Koes Plus. Barangkali tidak ada orang-orang Indonesia yang waktu itu masih berusia remaja yang tidak mengenal Koes Plus. Kapan Koes Plus mengeluarkan album baru selalu ditunggu-tunggu pecinta Koes Plus dan masyarakat umum.

Tahun 1972 Koes Plus sempat menjadi band terbaik dalam Jambore Band di Senayan. Semua peserta menyanyikan lagu Barat berbahasa Inggris. Hanya Koes Plus yang berani tampil beda dengan menyanyikan lagu “Derita” dan “Manis dan Sayang”.

Dari informasi yang dikirim seorang penggemar Koes Plus, ternyata prestasi Koes Plus memang luar biasa. Pada tahun 1974 Koes Plus mengeluarkan 22 album termasuk album instrumentalia. Jadi rata-rata mereka mengeluarkan 2 album dalam satu bulan. Tahun 1975 ada 6 album. Kemudian tahun 1976 mereka mengeluarkan 10 album. Mungkin rekor ini pantas dicatat di dalam Guinness Book of Record. Dan hebatnya, lagu-lagu mereka bukan lagu ‘asal jadi’, tetapi memang hampir semua enak didengar. Bukti ini merupakan jawaban yang mujarab karena banyak yang mengkritik lagu-lagu Koes Plus cuma mengandalkan “tiga jurus”: kunci C-F-G.

Karena banyak jasanya dalam pengembangan musik, masyarakat memberikan tanda penghargaan terhadap prestasinya menjadi kelompok legendaris dengan diberikannya tanda penghargaan melalui "Legend Basf Award, tahun 1992.Prestasi yang dimiliki disamping masa pengabdiannya dibidang seni cukup lama, produk hasil ciptaan lagunya pun juga memadai karena sejak tahun 1960 sampai sekarang berhasil menciptakan 953 lagu yang terhimpun dalam 89 album. Prestasi hasil ciptaan lagu untuk periode kelompok Koes Bersaudara sebanyak 203 lagu (dalam 17 album),sedang untuk periode kelompok Koes Plus sebanyak 750 lagu dalam 72 album (Kompas,13 September 2001).

Salah satu anggota Koes Plus mengatakan bahwa mereka dibayar sangat mahal pada masa jayanya. Yon mengungkapkan bahwa pada tahun 1975 mereka manggung di Semarang. "Waktu itu pada tahun 1975, kami telah dibayar Rp 3 juta saat pentas di Semarang," kenang dia. Padahal, saat itu harga sebuah mobil Corona tahun 1975 kira-kira Rp 3,750 juta. Bila dikurs saat ini bayaran tersebut kurang lebih sama dengan Rp 150 juta.(Suara Merdeka, 4 Mei 2001)

Waktu itu, Rp 3,5 juta sangat tinggi, mengingat mobil sedan baru Rp 3 juta. Jika dikurskan dengan nilai uang sekarang, jumlah itu sama dengan Rp 200 juta sampai Rp 300 juta. Jumlah penonton melimpah ruah tidak seperti sekarang, kenang Yon. (Suara Merdeka, 23 Oktober 2001).

Setelah itu popularitas Koes Plus mulai redup. Mungkin karena generasi sudah berganti dan selera musiknya berubah. Koes Plus vakum sementara dan Nomo masuk lagi menggantikan Murry, sekitar akhir 1976-an. Koes Bersaudara terbentuk lagi dan langsung ngetop dengan lagunya “Kembali” yang keluar tahun 1977. Murry bersama groupnya Murry's Group juga cukup menggebrak dengan lagunya “Mamiku-papiku”. Tidak bertahan lama tahun 1978 kembali terbentuk Koes Plus. Lagu barunya, “Pilih Satu” juga langsung populer. Setelah itu keluar lagu “Cinta”, dengan aransemen orchestra, yang benar-benar berbeda dengan lagu Koes Plus yang lain. Kemudian populer juga album melayu mereka yang memuat lagu “Cubit-Cubitan” dan “Panah Asmara”. Tetapi Koes Plus generasi ini tidak lagi sepopuler sebelumnya. Walaupun, kalau disimak lagu-lagu yang lahir setelah 1978, masih banyak lagu mereka yang bagus.

Nasib Koes Plus kini sangat tragis. Seperti kata Yon suatu ketika bahwa Koes Plus hanya besar namanya tetapi tidak punya apa-apa. Ucapan ini memang pas untuk mewakili keadaan personel Koes Plus. Mereka tidak mendapatkan uang dari hasil penjualan kaset yang berisi lagu-lagu lama mereka. Tidak seperti para penyanyi/pemusik masa kini yang gaya hidupnya “wah” karena dari segi finansial pendapatannya sebagai penyanyi/pemusik cukup terjamin. Begitu juga bekas group-group tersohor seperti Beatles, atau Led Zeppelin, mereka hidup dengan enak hanya dari royalti kaset/VCD/CD/DVD yang mereka hasilkan. Sampai anak-anak dan istri mereka pun menikmati kelimpahan finansial ini.

Koes Plus hanya dibayar sekali untuk setiap album yang dihasilkan. Tidak ada royalti, tidak ada tambahan fee untuk setiap CD/kaset yang terjual. Maka tidak heran ketika tahun 1992 Yon harus jualan batu akik untuk menghidupi rumah tangganya. Sementara kaset dan CD lagunya masih laris terjual di Indonesia. Sekarang pun di usianya yang ke-63 Yon dan kawan-kawan (Murry beberapa kali tidak tampil karena sakit) membawa nama Koes Plus harus manggung untuk mendapatkan uang. Dengan sisa-sisa suara dan kekuatannya mereka harus menjual suara dan tenaganya. Yon memang tidak merasakan ini sebagai beban. Dia bersyukur lagunya masih dicintai orang. Tetapi kita prihatin mendengar kabar seperti ini.

Biodata | Mey Chan Duo Maia

Biodata :
Mey Chan yang memiliki nama asli Dita Anggraini, lahir di Malang, Jawa Timur, 14 Mei 1986. Ia adalah anggota grup musik Duo Maia (yang dulu memakai nama Ratu) bersama Maia Estianty.

Biografi :
Putri pasangan Tjipto Yuwono dan Emmy Agustin yang tinggal di Malang ini mengaku bermusik sejak usia 14 tahun. Mahasiswi Kristen Universitas Brawijaya Malang, Fakultas Ilmu Administrasi, angkatan 2004 ini juga piawai bermain beberapa alat musik, seperti Keyboard, gitar, bass, dan juga drum. Sebelum bergabung dengan Maia Estianty di MAIA, Mey telah beberapa kali bergabung dengan grup musik yang bermain dari kafe ke kafe. Mey tercatat pernah bergabung dengan Komet 14, yaitu grup musik bentukannya kala usiannya memasuki remaja. Disusul grup band Infinity, yang ditekuninya selepas tamat SMU. Lewat Infinity juga Mey Chan dikenal sebagai musisi profesional dengan penampilannya di sejumlah kafe. Mey kemudian membentuk Dimensi Baru Band bersama teman-temannya. Dan terakhir Mey Chan bergabung Punk Romance, yang sekitar Juni 2007 ditinggalkannya.

Mey yang kini sedang cuti kuliah harus melalui audisi ketat sebelum akhirnya dipilih oleh Maia untuk mendampinginya. Rasa ngeri pun sempat menghinggapi Mey, sehingga dia ragu untuk menerima tawaran Maia. Selain nama besar Ratu dan Maia, Mey khawatir dengan tekanan dalam dunia entertain, apalagi saat itu Maia sedang disorot akibat masalah perceraian dengan Ahmad Dhani. Namun akhirnya Mey bergabung dengan Maia dan merilis album di bawah bendera Duo Maia bertajuk Maia & Friends (2008). Namun peran Mey di album ini tidak maksimal, karena saat Mey gabung materi lagu sudah tersedia.
